The CIEBI/BIC of Beira Interior is a Business & Innovation Centre in Portugal, operating out of the University of Beira Interior (UBI). Since 1994 CIEBI has been promoting business innovation and the modernization of existing businesses, providing entrepreneurship training, fostering links between academia and business and generally promoting development and economic growth in Beira Interior in Portugal. Among CIEBI's contributions to digitally-enabled entrepreneurship education and business innovation in general, there is the participation in myriad Business and Technology fairs as well as in projects such as SCT (Technologic Scientific System) which seeks to help convert technological potential into new business enterprises and more recently PLAYER project for the EC.
- João António Marrucho Carvalho - Project Manager
João Carvalho has been the General Manager of the CIEBI / BIC - Beira Interior Business Innovation Centre since its fouding in 1994. João has been promoting and developing entrepreneurial culture and business development for over 25 years. João is an expert consultant and coach in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Business Startups. His book "Enterprise Culture and the creation of companies" has been presented in multiple national and international conferences on entrepreneurial creativity and SME creation. João Carvalho is the Project Manager of PLAYER project. His duties additionally include coordinating the Consortium and promoting and disseminating PLAYER project.
- Isabel Esteves Duarte - Consortium Coordinator
Isabel Duarte has been a Project Coordinator and in charge of Professional Training at CIEBI/BIC Business & Innovation Centre of Beira Interior since 1994 and has for more than 15 years done coordination work in multiple national and transnational projects financed by ERDF and FSE. Isabel Duarte is an expert and coach in the dissemination of PNEE (National Program of Education for Entrepreneurship) project promoted by the Portuguese Ministry of the Education. Isabel is an accredited CNB (National Benchmarking consultant). Isabel Duarte is the coordinator of the PLAYER Consortium and is responsible for promoting and disseminating PLAYER project.
EBN is an international non for profit association composed by a Brussels-based team of 11 people and the leading pan-European Community of Business & Innovation Centres (BICs) and Innovation-based incubators, becoming over the last twenty years a European reference in innovation, spin-off, incubation, entrepreneurship, research-driven SMEs and regional economic development. One of the primary objectives of EBN is to provide "expertise, best practice and guidance to its members". EBN will be organizing PLAYER promotional events and providing entrepreneurship expertise throughout PLAYER’s duration, lending its vast network of contacts to PLAYER’s success.
- Robert Sanders - Project Manager
Robert Sanders is the Head of EBN's International Projects Department, where he manages a diverse portfolio of international projects focusing on business incubation and SME support in the European Union as well as in countries such as China, Jordan and Turkey. His previous experiences include working for Pechiney UK Ltd, Glon SA and WT Foods Ltd. in the fields of export and business development. He set up his own consultancy business in 2000 to work on international marketing and project management. He graduated from Leicester University, UK, in 1988 majoring in French, Information Technology and Economics. Robert Sanders coordinates the project Player promotion activities and dissemination of the final results.
- Vera Barracho - Project Dissemination
Vera Barracho is a Project Manager for EBN, managing international projects from different clients, including the European Commission, with the aim at supporting business incubators’ operations and their client companies, as well as young entrepreneurs. Vera did work as intern to the Deputy Head of Unity, in DG JLS, Financial Support Unit as part of the European Commission Traineeship Programme. Vera worked in project management, fundraising, business development and public affairs in Portugal. Vera has a post-graduate degree in Political Science & International Relations, Security & Defence Studies. Vera is the responsible for the development of Player dissemination strategy, promotional material and the official launch of the game in Brussels.
Located in Barcelona, EADA is an EFMD and AMBA –accredited international business school which every year offers international MBA and master programs for postgraduates (as well as tailor- made in-company programs for corporate clients) to around 3000 students from 40 different countries. EADA’s three main research centres are focused primarily on organisational behaviour, entrepreneurship, innovation and corporate social responsibility. Presently EADA is taking part in the "Your Future – Your profit" project under the aegis of the EC’s Leonardo Da Vinci programme and has partnered ina submission to the Comenius Network Programme titled "Entrepreneurship Education and the World of Work".
- Martin Rahe – Content development, best-practices event
A founding member of the Society for Global Business and Economic Development, Martin Rahe is a german economics professor who has previously worked as project manager at the Institute of Applied Innovation Research, where he handled partnerships between German and Russian companies. Since January 2000 Martin has been with EADA as Director of the Research Department and Professor of Economics and Business Policy. Martin Rahe is taking part in the development of the content of the game and is set to organize an event for presenting the best entrepreneurial practices hosted by PLAYER.
- Carlos E. Morales – Content development, best-practices event
Carlos E. Morales is PhD Candidate by the SESS program (European PhD in Socio Economic and Statistical Studies-SESS) in Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. Master in Sociology by the University of Barcelona and MBA by EADA. Carlos is graduate in Social Psychology by the Peruvian Catholic University. He was member of the Experts Panel for developing the National Plan of diversity management for Spanish SMEs (Ministerio de Trabajo y Asuntos Sociales - 2008). Carlos lectures at EADA in People management department. His research interests are entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial skills, cultural values and diversity management.
Founded in 1994 in Italy, Innova BIC S.p.A. is a full member of EBN (European Business Innovation Centre Network) whose mission is to foster entrepreneurship and innovation in management. Innova Business Innovation Centre has partnered with ERDF, EP7 and CIP in such projects as ETRERA (harnessing research and development excellence in renewable energies in Tunisia) and Energy2b (aiding students in turning innovative ideas in renewable energies into profitable startup businesses).

Alberto Soraci is a Milan Polytechnical Institute and Trieste Science Park -accredited expert in Technology Transfer with over 10 years worth of experience in research cooperation, scientific development and technological innovation. Alberto has been involved with multiple startup companies in ICT, tourism, services, transportation, logistics, and local administration. Alberto Soraci is in charge of coordinating the team-wide effort of defining the inner-workings of PLAYER and designing the mode of operation for the contest. He is additionally in charge of contests and polls to be launched by the PLAYER website.
- Giovanni di Fiore – Contest rules and progression, site events
Giovanni Di Fiore is the Innova BIC general manager. Over the last years he has matured a significant experience with important companies, especially as far as strategic and organisational behavior of new entrepreneurs is concerned. He has significant experience in selecting business ideas and companies, in the following fields energy, ICT, transport and logistics systems, for review by venture capital investors, and addressing business development issues (including innovation, entrepreneurship, internationalisation, organisational networking and strategic change). He has been involved as a speaker in many university training courses.
IRP Institute for Entrepreneurship Research is a private non-profit organization located in the center of Maribor. Institute has 7 employees and 6 of them have studied at the Faculty of Economics and Business in Maribor. Tovarna podjemov, University business incubator, is run by IRP and is an important element in the system of business support in the north eastern Slovenia and is mainly focused on promoting innovative ideas of students, young researchers and professors from the University of Maribor. University Business Incubator is contributing with many other activities to the promotion of the importance of innovative entrepreneurship in Slovenia and the rise of entrepreneurial activity in its region and beyond. Tovarna podjemov is striving to help create as many new knowledge-based innovative companies (especially academic spin-off companies) that will be able to achieve high growth and added value. Institute works with excellent companies that educate future entrepreneurs and offer them the support to take their first steps in the business world as development partners, co-authors or as subcontractors. Tovarna podjemov is also the main organizer of the Slovenian Start:up competition Start:up Slovenija and the main organizer of international business conference PODIM.
- Matej Rus
Matej Rus holds a Master of Sciences degree in Economics and Business from the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Maribor and is a founding-member of the IRP Institute for the Entrepreneurship Research (and one of its managing directors since 2001) as well as a Senior lecturer for Entrepreneurship at Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Maribor. Matej is a member of the Slovenian Economists Association and of the Slovenian observatory for SMEs, with in-depth knowledge of Slovenian SMEs business practice, consulting and business planning. Matej Rus has vast experience in cooperating with SMEs, working on EU and governmental projects and also in co-operation with EU experts.
- Urška Renier
Urška Renier has a diploma in economics. She studied entrepreneurship and business economics at Faculty of Economics and Business in Maribor. Her scope of work is financial management of projects and preparation of financial reports for projects, financial and business planning, knowledge of the financial programs and establishment of the internal control system and tax consultancy and the valuation of companies. She is in the process of acquiring science Master’s degree in tax law at the Faculty of Law, University of Maribor.
- Urban Lapajne
Urban Lapajne has a diploma in economics, he studied marketing and communications at Faculty of Economics and Business at University of Maribor. He has wide experience in leadership and management of communications and promotional projects; he has also knowledge of the legal bases and theoretical frameworks of communication and promotion and of key Internet technologies and techniques for online communication and promotion. Urban Lapajne is a member of Slovenia Association for Marketing and Slovenian Association of Public Relations. He is in the programme and organizational committee of the international business conference PODIM and Slovenian competition Start:up Slovenia.
- Tina Gostenčnik
Tina Gostenčnik (Slovenj Gradec, 1984) is a researcher at the University Business Incubator - Tovarna podjemov runed by IRP. She work substantively in different EU projects. She holds a degree in sociology from the Faculty of social science, Ljubljana, where she was researched diffrent social phenomena. In 2009 she was worked at the Center of social work, Ravne na Koroškem in the field of psychosocial support for families and on the project 11.šola-šala, program for young people.
Founded in 1960, University of Novi Sad provides higher-learning to over 46.000 students in northern Serbia and is comprised of multiple research centres across 14 faculties. Faculty of Economics Subotica is focused primarily on the fields of economics, management, and business information systems. It’s Centre for National and International Projects was founded in January 2005 and has since participated in projects under the aegis of Interreg, GEM, TEMPUS, ASO, EUREKA, IPA, among others. As a partner in PLAYER project, Faculty of Economics Subotica is to put into action the European-wide Entrepreneurship Contest as well as sharing field-of-expertise resources with all the other project-partners.
- Saša Bošnjak – Implementation of Europe-wide Entrepreneurship Contest, Field-of-Expertise Resources
Saša Bošnjak is associate professor at the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Economics Subotica, Department of Business Information Systems and Quantitative Methods. His current research interests include the Data Base theory, methodology of data modeling, software development methodology and Internet technologies. He was Director of Regional Agency for development of SMEE in West Backa region, Serbia from 2003 to 2007 and Director of Centre for National and International Projects on the Faculty of Economics Subotica, from 2006 to 2009. Knowledge and experience gained through his career and positions will be transferred into the PLAYER project activities.
- Zita Bošnjak – Implementation of Europe-wide Entrepreneurship Contest, Field-of-Expertise Resources
Zita Bošnjak is full professor at the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Economics Subotica, Department of Business Information Systems and Quantitative Methods. Her current research interests include the theory and practice of knowledge in data discovery and expert and fuzzy systems, and their application to business, strategic management, education and capacity building. Having experience as an evaluator of applications within the call for the Best technology innovation of the Ministry of Science and Technology Development of Republic of Serbia in 2008 and 2009, her role within the PLAYER project is in the framework of executive summary/business plans evaluation.
- Viktorija Bojovic – Implementation of Europe-wide Entrepreneurship Contest, Field-of-Expertise Resources
Viktorija Bojovic is a PhD candidate with the Doctoral dissertation "Indicators of Sustainable Development and Possibilities of its Measure" in progress at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade. She is employed by the Faculty of Economics Novi Sad as a teaching assistant for the subjects of Microeconomics and Current microeconomic models from 2003. Second field of her research is a university and high-tech entrepreneurship. She is a co-founder of the Consulting Agency (Konekta consulting) and a trainer/consultant in the high-tech area for the researchers with the aspiration of becoming entrepreneurs. She participates in numerous projects, mainly funded by the Ministry of Science Serbia.
- Nenad Vunjak
Nenad Vunjak is a dean and full professor at the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Economics, Department of Finance, Banking, Accounting and Revision. As a professor at the Faculty of Economics in Subotica and the Educational Department of the Faculty of Economics in Novi Sad, Mr. Vunjak now teaches business finance, banking, financial market and stock exchanges, corporate and investment banking. He has published over 150 research papers and participated in numerous scientific events in the country and abroad. He has published 12 text books in the area of finance, banking and stock exchange operations. Prof. Vunjak is also a member of council of the Governor at the National Bank of Serbia.
- Aleksandar Grubor
Aleksandar Grubor is associate professor at the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Economics Subotica, Department of Trade, Marketing and Logistics. As a professor, Mr Grubor now teaches global marketing, services marketing. He was participated in numerous national and international scientific events, projects, studies and researches. He is a vice dean at the Faculty of Economics Subotica since 2007.
The University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro was formed in 1986, although its history builds upon valuable heritage drawn from the “old” Polytechnic of Vila Real, which was founded in 1973. In September 1979, the University Institute of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro was created and, less than 10 years after that, in recognition of its intense activity in the dominion of teaching, scientific and technological research, the Government transformed the University Institute into a University. Nowadays, UTAD is considered an important reference point in the Portuguese University System. UTAD will handle the implementation of the PLAYER web-platform.
- Leonel Morgado - Team coordinator
Leonel Morgado is an Assistant Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), in Portugal, where he lectures on programming and the use of virtual worlds. His main research interest is the use of virtual worlds as tools for learning and business. Before pursuing an academic career, he was terminologist for a MS Office 97 localization team, a manager of Web-development and software-deployment teams, a business technical manager, and a programmer. A researcher in Virtual Worlds and Technology-Enhanced Learning, Leonel Morgado is also the coordinator of the implementation & development teamof the PLAYER project.
- Benjamim Fonseca - Researcher & IT Development
Benjamim Fonseca is an Assistant Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), in Portugal, where he lectures on programming and collaboration systems. He received a PhD from UTAD, with a thesis subject of "A model for creating cooperative services". His main research interest is Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) and he has several scientific publications in the field, in conferences, journals and books. He is also a member of the PLAYER project team at UTAD.
- Hugo Paredes - Researcher & IT Development
Hugo Paredes is an Assistant Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, in Portugal where he lectures on systems integration and distributed systems. His main research areas include the interaction in virtual environments and the development of collaborative tools, more specific models for regulation of interaction in virtual environments, interaction environments self-adaptation techniques and methods for planning and developing collaborative applications. He authored over 20 papers, in journals, books, and conferences and is part of the research teams of several projects including PLAYER project.
- João Varajão - Researcher & IT Development
João Varajão is currently professor of Computer Science at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Portugal, where he teaches information systems management and software engineering. He supervises several Msc and PhD. He earned his PhD and MSc from the University of Minho. His scientific interests include information systems management, chief information systems profession and enterprise information systems. He has over one hundred publications, including books, book chapters, refereed publications, and communications at international conferences. He serves as associate editor for international journals and has served in several organization and scientific committees of international conferences.
- Ramiro Gonçalves - Researcher & IT Development
Ramiro Gonçalves is an Assistant Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, in Portugal where he lectures on information systems and digital platforms. His main research areas include the e-business and e-commerce, models and platforms, and accessibility web. He authored over 90 papers, in journals, books, and conferences and is part of the research teams of several projects including PLAYER project.
- Paulo Martins - Researcher & IT Development
Paulo Martins is an Assistant Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), in Portugal, where he lectures on database systems and programming. He received a PhD from UTAD, with a thesis subject of "A model for distance learning in environments that support mobility". His main research interests are Distance Learning, Mobile Environments, Virtual Worlds, Data Warehouse and Data Mining, and he has several scientific publications in these fields, in conferences, journals and books. He is also a member of the PLAYER project team at UTAD.
- Jorge Lima - Developer
Jorge is a Computer Science major who joined UTAD's team after a successful entrepreneurial career in the field of Virtual Worlds. After starting his career as a Web Developer in 2001, he transitioned to Second Life development in 2003 and its integration with web-based systems in 2005. Jorge launched the Second Life Wiki in 2004 and started developing his own virtual world, Metaverse, in 2005. He launched his own company, Beta Technologies in 2006, which earned 350,000 euros in the first year of operation and is now pursuing a aster's degree in Physics simulation at UTAD.
- Pedro Neves - Game Designer
Pedro Neves is a Journalism and Communication Sciences graduate with a specialization in Multimedia. Pedro was awarded the PT Multimédia prize for being top of his class in the multimedia branch in Oporto University in 2006. Shortly after graduation, Pedro Neves was accepted into one of the few postgraduate degrees in digital game design in the world, and after a one-year intensive study program was awarded in 2007 a Master in Arts degree by the University College for the Creative Arts (now UCA) in the UK. Pedro has done screenwriting work for feature-length film projects in the UK, and has produced an abundance of professional grade, up-to-industry standards game designs and design documentation.
- Ricardo Rodrigues Nunes - Developer
Ricardo Nunes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) presently working as an academic researcher with the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), a large and well-regarded state university in Portugal. Deeply involved with PLAYER project being developed by UTAD for the EU. Was awarded a Master in Sciences degree by the Rio de Janeiro Federal State University (Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio-de-Janeiro - UNIRIO). Was awarded a degree in IT for Education by Veiga de Almeida University, Brasil. Areas of expertise and keen interest lie with Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), Virtual Environments, Usability, Accessibility, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Systems, WebDesign and Computer-Assisted Education.
